The amount of time a fire rated design is approved for will depend on which UL or ETL fire rated design is used. Your building Architect, designer or contractor should be able to provide you with which 1 ½ hour design number they are using. Fire rated designs are made up of multiple components and detail all materials to be used in roof/floor assemblies (not just the exhaust fan), the design’s rating (½ hr., ¾ hr., 1 hr., 1 ½ hr.) vary depending on UL/ETL testing. The Air-King fire rated fans are a listed component in specific UL/ETL designs (shown below). You should check your specified fire rated design, confirm the rating and if Air-King is listed as an approved component. If the Air-King fire rated fans are not listed in the design, then you risk your installation being rejected upon inspection.
