The thermostat on a fan works by setting the fan to a temperature in which the fan will turn on at. For example, if the fan is set to 80 degrees, the fan will turn on when the room temperature the fan internally registers exceeds 80 degrees. Once the temperature of the room cools below 80 degrees (set temp) the fan will turn off.
The fan is designed to run when the ambient room temperature is above the set temperature and turn off when the ambient room temperature drops below the set temperature.
