Lasko makes fans that use both AC and DC motors.
What do AC and DC stand for? AC stands for alternating current and DC stands for Direct Current. AC motors have a current that changes direction whereas DC motors use current that flows in one direction.
What are the differences? AC motors typically have less speed settings, and are brushless. DC motors will offer more variation in speeds leading to more speed settings more precisely. At higher speeds, AC motors can be more efficient, whereas DC motors can be more efficient at lower speeds.
Which type is for me? If you are looking for a fan that has more speed settings to choose from, a DC powered fan will be ideal. If you are looking for higher air volume movement, an AC powered fan might fit your needs.
