It is very common for a brand new heater to have a new unit smell. Similar to when purchasing a new car, there is a non-toxic odor that may accompany the heater. As the heater runs, the smell should dissipate. It is important to mention that Lasko complies with all required safety testing to ensure our products meet or exceed these expectations. If you find the smell to be strong, please use the item in a well-ventilated room to allow for the odor to be removed more quickly. If you have been using the unit regularly for several days and the smell is still very much pronounced, please contact on of our customer support specialists for further assistance.

I just bought a new Lasko Tower heater because my furnace went out. I've been running this for about a little less than 24 hours now. I felt fine when I plugged it in. But the smell is gagging me. And I now have a headache. This is not a "new plastic" or "new" anything smell. This is definitely a chemical smell and it's making me sick. The heater itself is fine, but if it gives me a headache and makes me sick to my stomach/nauseous, I can't use it. And it's not just me. I had some people over today for a few hours and they remarked as well about the smell coming from the heater. It's not a burning smell. It's not a plastic smell. It's definitely a chemical smell. The closest I can come to describing it is something vaguely resembling human feces. But add a chemical to it. It's nasty and I'll probably have to return the heater. Also, it's only present in the room where the heater is and it is most noticeable when you sit near enough where the fan blows on you. One guest today said she had to literally go outside to get the smell out of her nose, and left shortly thereafter. Of the 4 people who were here, they all were affected by it. So that's 5 people altogether. All suggested I turn the fan off but I can't because I need the heater. But as soon as the stores open tomorrow I'll be looking for a replacement. No more Laskos for me. I think now, with this experience, that some of the chemicals and processes used by the Chinese manufacturing is questionable.
